If you’re looking to navigate the infamous teeth-chattering-call-your-RMT-afterwards Wonderland Rd bike lane in a meaningful way, then this is the cargo bike for you. As a four season cyclist, I can attest that the Load 75 and its suspension system has made an incredible difference in not only my comfort, but in my confidence on London’s notoriously pothole-filled roads. You become more predictable to drivers when you’re not trying to avoid cracks and pits on the shoulder, and as a plus, drivers don’t really know what to do with a cargo bike, so I’ve found that they tend to give me more space. The operation is smooth and intuitive, which has made the Load 75 my daily driver even when I’m not carrying kids, groceries, or other odds and ends. I’ve barely touched my other bikes since purchasing the Load and I don’t even feel guilty about it!
I’ll be honest in that I was a bit apprehensive with whether or not I’d be able to get the hang of a bakfiets, but I was amazed at how quickly I became comfortable: one trip around the block, and I felt confident enough to load my daughter in - and believe me when I tell you that it took a lot of coaxing to get her out! She loves the ride as much as I do. We fill up the box with blankets, books, and - even on one occasion - an entire Sesame Street playset. But most of the time we just chat about the things we see on our scenic rides along the TVP. It’s made the time I spend commuting so much more valuable and enjoyable.
The Load 75’s box is roomy enough to fit three kids: my daughter is a tall 3 year old, and she fits in just fine when I bring my nephew (5 yo) and niece (3 yo) out for cruises. I keep panniers on the back for my work bag, etc. to give more room to the kids up front. The battery life is decent, though I do keep a charger at work in case I need a top up. I love that the Nyon display syncs to my phone and Apple Watch, and that the motor is disabled when the display is removed.
As always, the team at LBC has been extraordinarily helpful with maintenance and recommendations. We’re incredibly lucky to have them here in London, and, thanks to them, it’s been a joy to actively participate in this city’s ever-growing cycling community.
